The Dragon Rocket Stove Boiler:

Q: I would like to see some pictures of the construction. But as a contractor for multiple years I would highly recommend some pressure pop off’s that are heat activated, or I hope you built your house out of reinforced concrete. If you make steam, Oh Oh.

A: In a traditional water jacket boiler I completely share your concern. I actually bought a relief valve in my initial planning stage but found it was not needed. The boiler is located in a building outside the home and the water is heated in 1/2″ copper coil instead of a large volume water jacket. There is a low volume of water for steam potential at any point. The hot water is stored in a separate 330 gallon tank with a volume of air for expansion. I’ve been using this for over a year with no issues. Even tested the steam generation point by turning off the pump when the fire was up to temp and the steam simply boils off into the expansion tank. Have a look at http://timothyluce.com/projects for some videos I took of the build if you’d like to know more.
